Why cut children's mental health services?
One in four of us will experience a mental health problem in our lifetime so why has the current government cut the provision of children's mental health services? Now half of all local authorities do not provide any. We must protect our children and support them; if we do not, they will become the next generation of psychiatric patients. I have written to my MP Laura Sandys for her views and would ask readers of this piece to contact their MPs because the more awareness of these cuts the better. Ultimately our children are going to suffer and with a paltry 6.5% of UK research funds spent on mental health the outcome is going to be appalling and maybe life threatening if children do not get the support and help they deserve.
